Support Efforts and Action against Corruption in Sri Lanka (SEAC)

Sl Map

Corruption is a major challenge across the globe and Sri Lanka is no exception. After the tsunami, weaknesses in accountability structures at the national and local level were highlighted. Large inflows of funding led to reports of bribes and malfeasance. This project aims to work with the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption (CIABOC) to strengthen the national system to prevent and combat corruption, to ensure that public funds do not feed inequality and injustice but instead go towards provision of basic services and the attainment of the Millennium Development Goals.

Objectives

  • A favourable regulatory environment to support the prevention and combating of corruption
  • Strengthened operational capacity of the CIABOC, in particular to lead investigations and prosecutions
  • Prevention of corruption through awareness raising and training for government officers
  • Establishment of effective mechanisms to monitor the implementation of the UNCAC and a National Anti-Corruption Action Plan
  • Innovative Integrity Initiatives in selected organizations
