Livelihood and Enterprise Development in Uva Wellassa Dry Zone (LED)

 

This project is an extension of the completed project titled “Capacity Development for Decentralized Poverty Reduction in Uva Wellassa” (CD-DPR). The overall objective of the Livelihood Generation for poverty Alleviation in the Monaragala district is to contribute to poverty reduction in the district. The program will seek to address the issues of income poverty in the agricultural sector and focus on contributing towards reducing income poverty and regional disparities, one of the goals in the MDG. The program will be implemented in six clusters (27 most vulnerable GN divisions) in five DS divisions in Monaragala district.

Objectives

  • Support vulnerable households, producer groups and entrepreneurs in selected communities in income-generation activities.
  • Promote cultivation of perennial crops and development of livestock among small farmers in the Uva dry zone areas under water stress conditions.
  • Support selected communities to establish and strengthen existing Village Development Fora [VDF] for the implementation of priority Village Development Plan [VDP] activities.
